Breastfeeding can be such a rewarding experience for mother and baby, and there are so many benefits! However, it can also come with lots of questions, challenges, and learning curves. And while we understand why mothers may not be able to breastfeed and may choose other feeding options, we wanted to put together a list of local breastfeeding resources in this article for moms who want to breastfeed but need some help and support.

Southwell Breastfeeding Preparedness Class
If baby is not here yet, but you know you want to breastfeed, Southwell offers a virtual breastfeeding preparedness class each month (in addition to an in-person childbirth preparedness class). This can be a great way to prepare for breastfeeding and have your partner attend so they can learn and understand more as well! The classes are typically held from 6:00-7:00 pm in the evenings. Affinity Pediatrics
If you’ve already had the baby and are needing some help and support, Affinity Pediatrics in Tifton offers an IBCLC (International Board-Certified Lactation Consultant), Kelly Grummer-Smith, FNP-C for breastfeeding moms who need help. An IBCLC can help with things like latch pain and/or damage, tongue and/or lip ties, breast or bottle refusal, low supply, over supply, pumping issues, sizing flanges, and more.

Tifton Woman’s Center
Tifton Woman’s Center also has Dina Herren, NP-C, who is also an IBCLC. She has been an IBCLC for 10 years and can offer new breastfeeding moms support and help if they are struggling. An IBCLC can help with things like latch pain and/or damage, tongue and/or lip ties, breast or bottle refusal, low supply, over supply, pumping issues, sizing flanges, and more.

La Leche League is an international organization offering advocacy, education, and training related to breastfeeding, and there is a La Leche League chapter in Valdosta. They typically offer support groups at least once a month in Valdosta. You can learn more here.
