In the summer, we’re all looking for a fun way to beat the heat, which is why for our first Small Town Saturday, we are featuring the town of Sylvester! If you’re not familiar with Sylvester, it’s only about 25 minutes away from Tifton on Highway 82 West.

The big draw to this community for families in the summer is a FREE splashpad. While there are other splashpads and water fun to be had in our area, the splashpad in Sylvester is one of only two free ones. The splash pad has a large tractor sprinkler, a train slide with water features, water “guns” that can move around, and more! There are also bathrooms at this splashpad, which is always a plus with kids, and there are several covered areas and picnic tables for you to relax while your kids enjoy the water.

Other Things to Check Out in Sylvester

  • Uncle Bill’s Pizzeria: While you’re in town, lunch at Uncle Bill’s Pizzeria is a great, affordable and local option that the kids will love. The pizza is delicious, and there is outdoor and indoor seating available. There are also a few yard games outside, and a Ram statue the kids can pose on for a great photo op.

  • Kelly Street Market: If you’re looking to do a little shopping, Kelly Street Market is a great option not far from the splashpad or Uncle Bill’s.

  • The Palace: Looking for something to do for a date night instead of with the kids? The Palace is THE place to go for a date night on a Saturday night in Sylvester.

  • Tyson Steel Building: Coming on a weekday instead of a Saturday? The splashpad will still be open, but you’ll want to check out the Tyson Steel Building in Doerun (about 20 minutes from Sylvester), which has lots of exotic animals on display.

  • T.C. Jeffords Park and Irene P. Hall Park: Want somewhere for the kids to play besides the splashpad? T.C. Jeffords Park or Irene P. Hall Park are the places to go! T.C. Jeffords is right off Highway 82, coming from Tifton, and it has several covered shelters, picnic tables, a playground, tennis courts, and the Old Engine 100 (a great photo op and a must see if your kid loves trains!). Irene P. Hall Park is located on West Street in Sylvester and has a playground, covered shelters, picnic tables, restrooms, and a walking track.
